Allen Ruppersberg. Siste Viator. 1993.
Libraries and art provide contemporary society a contemplative reflection of itself and a relationship with its history. Curating art shows in a library setting not only reaches a more diverse audience than commercial galleries or museums may, but also puts art into a context of democratic intellectual pursuit. Libraries are places where ideas become objects that are classified, paralleling art historical and curatorial practices. Corpus Humorous brings together the work of eleven California based artists whose art engages ideas about books and/or libraries.
